Cortie’s Corner: These are the most dog-friendly coffee shops in Phoenix

Get your next caffeine fix with your furry BFF in tow.

Finding places to take your pooch while you grab some caffeine is a cinch in Phoenix, where dog-friendly patios are a mainstay at many coffee shops. Whether you’re after a killer cold brew, a frothy latte, or a bold espresso, these spots have you covered, with the added bonus of a welcoming vibe for your canine pal. So, leash up your pup and sniff out these local coffee shops where you can sit and stay awhile with furry friends.

32 Shea

Phoenix

Residents of north Phoenix’s “Sheaborhood” adore the quirky 32 Shea — housed in a former drive-thru Fotomat — for its coffee drinks made with Flagstaff-based Matador beans and its puppuccino whipped cream cups for their four-legged friends, available on request. It also boasts a dog-friendly grassy area with a mini fire hydrant that dispenses fresh water. All drive-thru customers get a free dog treat, and 32 Shea is beloved among animal lovers for partnering with local rescue groups on adoptions. It also serves food and alcohol and has a popular happy hour.

Bottle & Bean

Chandler

Coffee shop and wine bar Bottle & Bean in south Chandler’s darling “downtown Ocotillo” has a huge patch of real grass where furry friends can relax. This, along with patios on two sides, would make it a great destination even if it didn’t also give gratis puppuccino cups topped with dog treat crumbles. Those with two legs can enjoy specialty espresso and chai drinks along with a concise menu of breakfast and lunch items and various pastries — or a charcuterie and cheese board and glass of vino, if you’re inclined.

Coffee Rush

Chandler and Gilbert

Waterfront seating isn’t the norm in the landlocked Valley of the Sun, but the patio behind the strip center at Coffee Rush’s Chandler location overlooks a lovely community lake, making it a scenic oasis for well-mannered, leashed dogs and their people. Various international beans and blends are the basis for an extensive menu of coffee drinks, and they offer a generous lineup of regular and sugar-free syrups for coffees and Italian sodas. Its Gilbert location on Baseline doesn’t allow dogs, but the Gilbert store at Val Vista and Elliot does, and it’s only 3.5 miles from Cosmo Dog Park.

Echo Coffee

Phoenix and Scottsdale

Since 2021, Echo Coffee has donated one percent of its sales to the Arizona Humane Society, and its original Scottsdale location has a patio with shaded tables and gives out free dog treats. It also sells bags of high-quality beans with the likenesses of Echo founder Rob Rigolfi Jr.’s dogs: Diesel, Chunky, Peggy, and Luna. So it’s no surprise that when AHS opened a new campus at Phoenix’s Papago Park in 2023, Echo was tapped to become its corporate partner and set up an indoor cafe (sorry, no doggos allowed at this outpost because it’s fully indoors).

Hair of the Dog

Gilbert

It’s more of a craft beer and wine bar than a coffee shop, but Hair of the Dog deserves a wag because it lets dogs lounge with their people indoors — an important perk when it hits triple digits. How is this possible? There’s no kitchen. But they host rotating food trucks, they sell packaged snacks for humans and locally made dog treats, and they serve espresso drinks made with beans by another local favorite, The Buzzed Goat, if you want a booze-free outing with your pooch.

Mis Raices

Phoenix

This Latina-owned coffee shop is renowned for its lip-smacking sweet drinks inspired by Mexican dessert flavors such as cajeta, flan, and horchata, and it’s ideally located in the hip, dog-loving Historic Grand Avenue arts district. Mis Raices shares a large, shaded patio with other businesses and gives out pup cups of whipped cream. Smoothies, pastries, and other light bites are on the menu, too. Pro tip: Pop in for a pick-me-up before heading to First Fridays or prior to an evening hang-out because it closes at 4:30 p.m. on weekdays (and 4 on weekends).

Pair Cupworks

Tempe

Although this shop is a kiosk tucked inside the behemoth Bouldering Project gym, non-members are welcome to wander in for an award-winning brew. The roastery is renowned for its quality beans, which it sells wholesale throughout the U.S. and in Europe and Asia. While sipping a latte, customers can enjoy the gigantic, shaded turf courtyard with Adirondack chairs so your Labradoodle can linger while you catch up on your laptop. Lawn games and hammocks are available, too. Pair Cupworks has locations in Mesa and Gilbert as well.

Songbird Coffee & Tea House

Phoenix

Nestled among all of the tall, shiny new apartments and other modern developments in the Roosevelt Row Arts District is Songbird Coffee & Tea House, a cute-as-a-button coffee shop in a charming, historic 1904 home. Their espresso, pour-over, and cold brew java drinks begin with beans from Tempe-based Cortez Coffee Roasters, which you can enjoy with a pastry or breakfast sandwich. Bring your pup and hang out on the inviting, greenery-ensconced patio or big, grassy front yard with picnic tables and Adirondack chairs.
